The Associate Consultant Role
The Associate Consultant is responsible for a broad work stream and will develop the hypothesis, structure the approach and lead junior team members. This role also requires the Associate Consultant to start building leadership skills and take on increasing responsibilities. Associate Consultants continue to play a crucial role in gathering, analysing and synthesising research and data to address the client’s core issues.
While casework needs will vary every day, the main responsibilities of an Associate Consultant include:
- Designing primary and secondary research campaigns on markets, competitors, and customers through a variety of methods including surveys and one-on-one interviews.
- Collaborating with project team members to derive trends, conclusions, and recommendations based upon the analysis. An Associate Consultant must transform what they have learned into thoughtful insights regarding the client's strategic direction.
- Drafting the overall answer for a specific module by developing story lines and structuring the blank slides using a hypothesis-led approach.
- Developing rigorous strategic and financial analysis that will be utilised to determine L.E.K.'s recommendation to the client. Examples include developing a spreadsheet model of market growth and competitor share, developing a valuation model for a company or product using discounted cash flow analysis, testing customer sensitivity to product attributes using adaptive conjoint analysis, or determining probability distributions of acquisition value.
- Providing robust technical and commercial quality control to ensure logic and accuracy for modules under their command.
- Leads capture of internal L.E.K. IP, managing junior associates in the creation of relevant materials.
- Facilitates meetings and workshops one-on-one or with small groups of client staff
- Managing and guiding junior associates work outputs (applicable for AC & SAC roles), coaching and transferring skills, offering constructive advice, and positively contributing to the workplace environment.
